I'm Sewing, I'm a sewer, I sewed!

Remember that scene in What About Bob when he (Bill Murray) finally goes sailing? (YouTube video here)That is how I felt about sewing yesterday. I've avoided pulling out the machine for so long I feared I would never sew again. But you know what? It was kind of like riding a bike. It all came back to me, even the tricky maze of threading the needle. The hard part was getting the tension right. For the first few attempts, all I got was a mess of top thread tangled up below the fabric. No bobbin thread what so ever. Arghhh!
But somehow I got the tension right and real stitches happened, right before my very eyes! I was hooping and hollering like you wouldn't believe. Ask Henry (he was home with a very nasty sadly placed case of poison oak, he's better now).

So, what did I make?? A comforter cover for Mae's bed. She picked out the flannel top sheet from The Company store (on sale for $17). The lavender bottom sheet is very soft beech/sateen; part of a twin set I got on sale for about $10 ($4 top and fitted/$2 pillowcase). Add them together, sew 3 sides of the rectangle and voila! you have a new comforter cover for only $21.

I knew you would appreciate that post! I think the kids might be able to watch it. You're only a sewer if you make something. I figure I saved about $50 making the cover myself! The 8 is fabulous. I'm rereading it to get ready for the sequel.
Wow a cat? One more mouth to feed...and poop to clean up. Cool beans! Congrats!

I always knew you could do it !! If you can knit you certainly can sew. Good luck and keep up the good work.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! I can't decide what to make (sew) next.
