This post is going to cover lots of things that were going on over the past few weeks that I just couldn't find the time to write about. We were pretty busy with visits from CO/AZ and NY, the fire, baseball, and getting ready for the camping trip. Mae's class went on a 3 day camping trip last week and I've got lots of great pictures and tons of wonderful words to say about it, but not tonight. I knew these baskets would come in handy one day. I figured it would be for tomatoes, but towers are just as good.
This is me today. I cleared out a lot of weeds and old flowers making space for food (beans/cukes/squash/corn).

Remember a few years back? I posted about a perennial sweet pea that blooms in the summer with skepticism. After re-reading that last sentence I've decided to leave it as is because it made me laugh out loud. The post was done with skepticism, not the blooming. Anyhoo, check this out! It has been slowly growing and then bloomed over the weekend. I'll get back to ya in a few more years to let you know how it's doing.
Speaking of sweet peas! We've got bouquets all over the house.
They look and smell great.
Okay, on to projects inside the house. This is a pet store that Mae and Lucy put together one morning.
I shamelessly copied this wonderful idea from this amazing blog. For a few months there we had something going every night of the week and needed a place to keep track of our days.
I started with a framed map designed to have push pins pushed into it. I added a few layers of cotton batting and then the embroidered canvas. Oh and I sewed on the pockets on the bottom. Then stapled the canvas to the back of the frame and voila! a weekly calendar of events. The tacks are regular thumbtacks with cute buttons hot glued on (copied from original, too-remember imitation is the most sincere form of flattery).
My hope is to someday get some chores (both free and for pay) added to the board, but for now with all the baseball and school stuff going on it doesn't seem fair to add more work to their already busy days. I don't think I mentioned during the fire posting how great it was to have everything canceled and to not be able to leave your house (in case the fire grew and they wouldn't let you back in), but it was great. I wish it hadn't been a fire to slow down our days, but the result was three kids playing together for 4 days with nothing else to do. Bliss.....mostly.
And, last but not least, yarn crafts. Don't think that because I haven't written about knitting (or crocheting) I haven't been doing it. Because I have. I just haven't been photographing my projects, so nothing to show. But here is the lovely Lucy modeling the clapochet in Mini mochi yarn (color strawberry limes rainbow). This works up quickly (so quickly I've made another one since alas with no pictures yet) and is quite useful as a scarf/shawl (just ask Jil who wore it for the whole first day she arrived in sunny warm southern California).

Hey, anyone still reading??? Thanks for sticking it out until the end. Next up, the most amazing school camping trip ever. Well, it was amazing but it was the only one I'd ever been on so it wins by default. Even so, it is setting the bar pretty dang high for future trips.

Well no wonder we haven't seen each other, Wendy! Such business!
That is a very cool project board.
And my sweetpeas (that Kaeva and I planted in January) are just now starting to bloom heavily! Go figger.
