Ernie & Turkeys

I couldn't resist posting this picture. What is cuter than a kitten sleeping in a yarn basket? Nothing, I tell ya. Turns out, when he is awake, yarn is no longer his friend. He attacks con fuerza. He has made such a yarn mess in our living room you'd think I would learn to put everything away at night. I guess I forget sometimes. Like the one time we heard a chair being dragged across the dining room floor around 1am. Ernie had wound himself up in a soft pink ball, arms, neck, chair, the works. It took a few minutes to free him and then a few more to wind up the web he created in the house.

I don't have any turkey pictures, but I have turkey news. We are getting a heritage breed free range organic turkey for Thanksgiving. Locally raised. Doesn't get any better than that. This is the ranch that will be supplying our bird this year. I drive past them every morning on the way to Lucy's school. We've been watching the turkeys since late spring and I must say, they are looking very large, even from the road. I'll certainly post a review of the meal after Thanksgiving. Since reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, I've been much more aware of where my food is grown and raised. We are lucky enough to have a great farmer's market year 'round and I'm going to start taking full advantage of it.
