Snowy Day!

We've had a bit of snow around here lately.  Since we are pretty prepared for it, school never gets canceled and life keeps on keeping on.  Most people have 4 wheel drive so even if our streets don't get plowed (which our cul-de-sac rarely does) we can all still get out and about.  This day we all headed out to some open space near our house for a little sledding/sled boarding.

Snow!

These crazy kids are always complaining that we don't live where it snows.
Well....guess what??
We do! Sort of.
We drove to Ojai over the break (30 miles southeast) and decided to check out a short trail to a waterfall.
It was beautiful, but darn cold.
We were at about 3,000' and we were all (except me) wearing shorts.
The temperature was around 38.
I know, that is nothing compared to what you all have to deal with, but I was cold.
Even in pants!
 Even the ferns had icicles.
It was so pretty; green and glittery.
They were pretty happy, maybe even content enough to do without snow for a while.
In a different area from this waterfall we saw big paw prints; most likely bear and mountain lion.
Good thing we didn't see bear and mountain lion!
Okay, quick. Take this picture and lets get back to the car.
My toes are frozen!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

We have had a lot of snow today. Actually it started around 7:00pm Thursday night and hasn't really stopped. So far we have about 16". Sue has been loving it! I have been loving sitting inside by the fire all day. I'll take some more tomorrow if it ever stops snowing.

Sue in the Snow

Here is one of Sue's first trips out in the snow.

I think you can click on this and see it on youtube in a little better quality.

Update

What's going on here? Is sweet, sweet Isabel doing something to her hair?...
Looks red...
And here is the new Izzy. She has been asking me if she could dye her hair red for at least a year. I have kept saying no over and over again. She decided she wants to be Fiona from Shrek for Halloween so therefore she NEEDS to have red hair. So, red hair she has. It looks beautiful. I really like the color.
We got out first real snowfall of the season today. It's hard to believe it was 80 on Monday and Chance and I went for a bike ride in shorts and a tank top (me, not him). We probably got around 8" today. It was really beautiful. The only downside to an early snow like this is all the broken tree limbs. There were a lot of them around town unfortunately.

Snow in SB!

We saw snow on the mountains from our house this morning and we knew what we were gonna do today (anyone watch Phineas and Ferb?). This is looking back down on SB.
This is looking north. There was a lot more snow on those mountains, but they are a lot farther away so we decided to just stay in our foothills.
It was pretty icy in the shade. I think this snow will be around for a while. Maybe a whole day.
Everyone was thrilled to be in the snow again even tho it was pretty cold and windy.
We had an epic-five-way-every-man-for-them-self snowball fight. The snow was perfect for making snowballs. Sadly, we only had 8 gloves. John and I had one frozen hand each.

If you look at this picture bigger, you can see the snowball exploding on Mae's hand.
This one almost hit me, but I'm pretty quick.

Fun in the snow.

For those of you that haven't been out to visit lately this is just a reminder that we expect everyone to have proper dinner attire. It all started with Izzy getting dressed and then Josie put something special on for dinner and it all snowballed from there. We had a great visit with Grandpa Dave and Grandma Carol. We had some wonderful food and drink and a fun day of sledding. Check out the pictures. I also have some great video that I hope to get up soon as well.

eggs and snow

Lucy was lucky enough to gather some eggs from Grandma Nancy's chickens.
This was a few minutes before we left Bend on the drive home. It was really snowing; big fluffy snowflakes. It was a slow drive for three hours and then we stopped.
Yes, stopped. There was an accident that needed to be cleared, so we were just parked on the highway for 90 minutes. There was a lot of snow everywhere.
The kids loved it. And I could easily take pictures from the car!
This is the view from the front seat before arriving in Weed, CA. Mostly white.
Looking out the passenger side window. Crazy snow. Enough to last me a year at least!
::
We made it home, of course, and now I've got to move on to other holiday blogging.

Its been raining here for 3 days straight. Non-stop. Enough to last me a year! Supposed to rain for 3 more days. What a perfect opportunity for baking! Butter season carries on.
