New Kid in the House

Lucy has been asking for a haircut for nearly a month.
Every day wondering if I found a place to cut her hair.
She wanted it short, so I wanted to be sure she was sure.
She sure was!
 Luxury!
Her stylist was fabulous.
We had pictures of short hair cuts on the iPod to show her and she did exactly what Lucy wanted.
 She didn't look back.
Excited, not worried - even as long clumps of hair were falling to the floor- the whole time.
Long bangs are cute. Maybe we'll see this 'do' again as it grows out.
Unless Lu wants to maintain the short pixie.
 Almost done.
 Finishing touches.
Then came mousse, wax (?) and blow drying.
The stylist laughed when I told her our hair dryer was from when I was in high school.
 Ta-dah!
And ta-dah from the side!

crazy hair day

I am way behind. I've got loads of photos.
These are from Crazy Hair Day at school a few weeks ago.
Doesn't Lucy look like Abby Cadabby from Sesame Street?
Extra stuff of any kind in the morning can be hard, but we had discussed hairdos the night before, so there was a plan.
And I wasn't working that day, so only two dos.
Not dos, like two in Spanish. However there were two.
Dos dos? (dose dooz?)
It is such a treat for me to be able to 'do' Mae's hair.
I wish Crazy Hair Day was every Friday!

Short(er) Hair

The simple task of taking a picture of my own head was quite a challenge (I took 23 pictures in all, and didn't like most of them). I could write a post about just that. However, the point here is that I CUT MY HAIR! As you can see above and below, it was looooooong. Too long. Like it gets in the way long. You can also see how terrible the lighting is in our bathroom.
So, while the kids and John were off to Bend, OR for the High and Dry Bluegrass Festival, I went to the salon. Yep, a salon. Where lots of (mostly) women go to get their hair cut or colored all the time. I hadn't been in years. Many years. Sounds fancy, but I just got the standard wash and cut. They massage your head. That was really nice. And they give you a discount if you donate your hair, which I did, to Locks of Love. I was not salon-comfortable enough to bring a camera with me, so I don't have pictures of the long detached pony-tails they cut off. It was quite impressive, though.
And now, I could look like this.
But, usually I don't. I still wear it in a pony-tail 99% of the time. Today I have two braids that don't even reach that little tie in the second photo (coincidentally, I am wearing the same shirt).
Check out those wavy-curly bits. They are kind of cool.
So, if you're wondering if it was hard to do or if I have any regrets. The answer is nope to both.

Update

What's going on here? Is sweet, sweet Isabel doing something to her hair?...
Looks red...
And here is the new Izzy. She has been asking me if she could dye her hair red for at least a year. I have kept saying no over and over again. She decided she wants to be Fiona from Shrek for Halloween so therefore she NEEDS to have red hair. So, red hair she has. It looks beautiful. I really like the color.
We got out first real snowfall of the season today. It's hard to believe it was 80 on Monday and Chance and I went for a bike ride in shorts and a tank top (me, not him). We probably got around 8" today. It was really beautiful. The only downside to an early snow like this is all the broken tree limbs. There were a lot of them around town unfortunately.

Bangs for Lucy

Before getting bangs. . . . . .
and after.

Yeah, I took a lot of pictures and I liked a lot of them, so I posted them. We kind of cheated and took the before picture after but with a headband, but maybe until you read this you hadn't noticed. Anyway, gotta love those opportunities when they want to be in the picture!

Rag Curls

So, the other day Lucy decided she wanted to have curly hair. And since I don't own any curlers, we made some out of an old pillow case.
She looked so cute with them in. Kind of Little House on the Prairie, but no one here knows that series (book or tv)........yet.
She slept in them, said they were comfortable. Not possible, I say. The next morning we took them out and tah-dah! Curls.
She loved 'em and loved that many people at school noticed and mentioned her hair.
Not related to curly hair, Sunday morning breakfast. Often popovers, sometimes bagels, rarely waffles. Always delicious and easy, you know, easy like a Sunday morning.

Where did that come from?

A few weeks ago, when it was rainy and wet, this thing appeared from the side of my head. It was a short, very curly bunch of hairs that escaped from my bun. I haven't seen it since, but I wanted to share it with you.

Haircuts and Harvests

So, wow! School is out and I've got three little people at home. Now what? Don't get me wrong, I've been looking forward to this for months, but when everyone was screaming at 9:30am, only 1.5 hours into vacation, I got a little freaked out. Things did get a lot better, but that is not what I came here to say. Read on .... Lucy decided that she wanted a haircut. Phew! Finally! We've been having brushing issues for about a year now. We both really like the new 'do' and hopefully it will lead to a certain 5 year old taking care of her own dang hair. Of course, if she asks me to brush it or braid it, I will most certainly oblige.
Have you ever reached into your bag of potatoes at dinnertime only to find a mess of squishy ovals with lots of eyes? Last time this happened to me (has it happened more than once? yup) I cut up the potatoes and buried them in the garden. THEY TOTALLY GREW MORE POTATOES! This is the harvest from 4 plants. I might just do this again, with purpose!

And these are the final sweet peas of the season. We all picked as many as we could, placed bouquets all over the house and then proceeded to pull out the spent plants. Can't wait to get something new growing in their space.
::
Happy summer everyone. Now if only we could ditch the fog that has been hanging around for the past few weeks (keeping the temperature in the low to mid 60's, no thank you) it would really feel like summer. I want beach days darn it.

The Unbraiding

Friday night was unbraiding night. Isabel had a friend sleep over so she helped with Isabel's hair. I did Josie's by myself (for as long as she would let me - it took a day or so to finish hers). We were watching the movie Milo and Otis while we were working so that passed the time a little bit quicker.
